The Native Star Foundation (NSF) was established in 2013 by William J. Carrillo Sr., an enrolled member of the Tule River Indian Tribe. William J. Carrillo Sr., incorporated NSF in 2018 in the State of California as a domestic nonprofit corporation – 501(c)(3). Stewarded by a Board of Directors who are tribal representatives of the Santa Ynez Chumash, and Tule River Indian Tribes, NSF’s mission is to promote Native people, especially the young through community development, and cultural practices. Specifically, by nurturing their knowledge and understanding that health is inseparable from the health of natural environment.
The Native Star Foundation is developing core departments focused on Wellness, Education, Youth Development, Workforce Development and Tribal Ecological Knowledge. These departments aim to support Native youth and communities through cultural preservation, academic support, environmental stewardship, and holistic health initiatives rooted in Indigenous values.
Women-Led Board of Directors
Native Star Foundation is guided by a women-led Board of Directors composed of tribal leaders and community advocates. Their leadership emphasizes cultural integrity, community wellness, and intergenerational knowledge, ensuring that organizational decisions reflect Native values and priorities.
